First Communion Catechism Classes

Home / Parish Club / First Communion Catechism Classes

Serving at the altar is one of the most meaningful ways young people can participate in the life of our parish. There’s a quiet dignity in lighting the candles, carrying the cross, or assisting the priest during Mass—moments that help deepen faith and build confidence in equal measure.

About

Every Thursday evening from 6pm to 7pm, children gather in the Church Hall for structured catechism lessons that prepare them for their First Holy Communion. These classes, organized in partnership with Dunreath and Opus Dei, combine teaching about the Eucharist, the Mass, and Catholic faith with age-appropriate activities, prayers, and discussions. Children learn not just what happens during Communion, but why it matters—helping them approach this sacrament with understanding and reverence.

These classes are for children who are preparing to receive their First Holy Communion. Typically, this includes children around age 7 or 8, though every child’s journey is unique. Parents are encouraged to support their children’s preparation by reinforcing lessons at home and attending Mass together regularly.
