Altar Society
Serving at the altar is one of the most meaningful ways young people can participate in the life of our parish. There’s a quiet dignity in lighting the candles, carrying the cross, or assisting the priest during Mass—moments that help deepen faith and build confidence in equal measure.
About
The Altar Society cares for all the practical details that make Mass possible: cleaning and pressing altar linens, polishing vessels, arranging flowers, preparing the sanctuary for different liturgical seasons, and ensuring the church always looks its best. It’s work that largely goes unnoticed—which is exactly how it should be. When done well, people simply experience a beautiful, welcoming space for prayer without realizing the hours of care that went into creating it. Members work on a rota system, often in pairs, making it both manageable and sociable.
If you appreciate order and beauty, if you find satisfaction in behind-the-scenes work that serves others, or if you’d simply like to contribute to parish life in a practical way, the Altar Society might be perfect for you. It doesn’t require special skills—just reliability, attention to detail, and reverence for sacred spaces. Many members find the work itself becomes a form of prayer.
