SPRED – Special Religious Education

Home / Parish Club / SPRED – Special Religious Education

Serving at the altar is one of the most meaningful ways young people can participate in the life of our parish. There’s a quiet dignity in lighting the candles, carrying the cross, or assisting the priest during Mass—moments that help deepen faith and build confidence in equal measure.

About

SPRED provides specially adapted religious education for children and adults with learning disabilities. Our trained catechists use creative, multi-sensory approaches to help participants encounter God’s love in ways that suit their individual learning styles. Sessions are relaxed and joyful, focusing on building friendships, experiencing God’s presence through prayer and ritual, and helping participants feel they belong. We also support families, recognizing that parents of children with disabilities often face unique challenges in accessing faith formation.

If you have a family member with an intellectual disability who would benefit from faith formation in a supportive, understanding environment, SPRED is here for you. We welcome participants of all ages and abilities. If you’re interested in volunteering as a catechist or helper, we’d also love to hear from you—no special qualifications needed, just patience, warmth, and a belief that everyone deserves to know God’s love.
